Tokyo taxi fares will be increasing this spring. This will be the first increase since October 2022, and will affect all 23 wards of Tokyo, as well as Musashino City and Mitaka City.

The base fare (500 yen) will be applied from 1.096 kilometers to 1 kilometer, and the additional fare per section (100 yen) will be reduced from 255 meters to 232 meters. The additional fare for travel at speeds of 10 kilometers per hour or less (100 yen) will also be reduced from 1 minute 35 seconds to 1 minute 25 seconds.

The average annual salary of a taxi driver in Japan is around 4 million yen, which is relatively low compared to other industries. The latest fare increase is primarily a response to rising costs due to rising driver wages and rising fuel prices.
